"The most interesting careers, like the most interesting people, are those with some weathering around the edges."
My path has been anything but straight, and that's exactly what makes it worth sharing. I've navigated different continents, industries, and cultures with one constant compass: my belief that people are the heart of every successful organization.
It all began in Paris, where I pursued my Master's in Human Resources. I didn't wait for permission to start learning: I threw myself into every internship, short-term contract, and recruitment opportunity I could find. Those early experiences taught me that real HR work happens in the messy, human spaces between policy and practice.
My first professional chapter unfolded in the world of luxury brands, where excellence wasn't just encouraged, it was the price of admission. There, I learned how strategic HR could elevate an entire business when executed with precision. However, comfort zones have never been my style, so I leaped into the startup ecosystem. Suddenly, I was building the plane while flying it, making decisions with incomplete data, creating processes from scratch, and learning that sometimes good enough today beats perfect tomorrow.
The most transformative challenge came when I moved from the U.S. to France. Picture this: trying to prove your professional worth in a language you're still struggling with. There were moments of deep frustration, but also moments of unexpected grace, like when a hiring manager complimented my courage before my grammar. I doubled down on language classes, attended every networking event, and slowly but surely, turned my biggest weakness into one of my greatest strengths.
Today at HubSpot, I get to bring all of these lessons together. When I interview candidates, I'm not just evaluating skills, I'm looking for that spark of potential that no algorithm can detect. I've learned that the best talent decisions happen when we see people not just for what they've done, but for what they're capable of becoming.
If there's one lesson I want to leave you with, it's this: Growth isn't a straight line upward. It's a series of loops. Sometimes you'll feel like you're going in circles, but each revolution takes you higher. Stay curious. Find mentors who challenge you. And remember — the most interesting careers, like the most interesting people, are those with some weathering around the edges.
